Stephen Chbosky is an American author, screenwriter, and director renowned for his bestselling novel "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he graduated from the University of Southern California's film writing program. Chbosky's work often explores themes of adolescence and self-discovery. He also directed the film adaptation of his novel and co-wrote the screenplay for the live-action "Beauty and the Beast" (2017).

So, I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we’ll never know most of them.
I think that if I ever have kids, and they are upset, I won’t tell them that people are starving in China or anything like that because it wouldn’t change the fact that they were upset.
I know that things will get better. I just hope that it's soon.
I am very interested and fascinated by how everyone loves each other, but no one really likes each other.
Please believe that things are good with me, and even when they’re not, they will be soon enough.
I'm going to do what I want to do. I'm going to be who I really am. And I'm going to figure out what that is.
